There's something new in sun protection that you need to know about. The recently developed ingredient, Helioplex,

extends protection against the sun's UVA rays in two ways. It is effective after application for twice as long as any prior UVA sun screen ingredient; and it protects against a broader spectrum of the sun's rays.

UVA rays are the most dangerous because they penetrate deep into the skin?s layers and cause cancer as well as visible signs of aging.

Dr. Allan Oseroff, dermatology chair at both the Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the University at Buffalo calls Helioplex the most important advance in sun protection in 20 years.

Sun damage is cumulative. Every little bit counts. Even if you?re only exposed to the sun?s rays as you dash from the store to the car or sit near a sunny window, you?re adding to the damage already done.

The good news is that as soon as you start using sunscreen properly and consistently, you stop adding to the damage.

Further, since the skin is no longer stressed trying to fight off UV rays, it is able to dedicate resources to reversing some of the accumulated damage.

Doctors say you have to use a lotion with SPF 30 or more to get any real protection. And you have to reapply it frequently, although half as often if you use a product with Helioplex in it.
