EGF Skin Care Products
Can EGF Skin Care Products Cause Hair Loss?
Can you tell me about Re Vive Skin Care?
What is EGF?
Does it cause hair loss?
If so, how can they sell the cream?

EGF stands for epidermal growth factor. It is a small polypeptide of 53 amino acids and is a cytokine or cell messenger protein that stimulates epithelial cell proliferation.
It has many medical uses and more are being discovered almost daily. Taken internally, it is used to treat some devastating conditions of premature infants, as well as enlarged prostate in adult males.
In cream form it is helpful for wound and burn healing and has achieved amazing cures of severe ulcerating skin diseases such as life-threatening Steven-Johnson Syndrome (SJS).
Endogenous EGF, that which your body produces on its own, does have an inhibitory effect on hair growth in specific areas of the skin; namely the beard area of the face and neck, the hairline (where thinning hair is frequently first noticed) and under the arms. This type of hair loss has also been reported as a side effect when EGF is taken internally.
It has not yet been reported for topical skin care application.
How EGF Effects Hair Growth
If you're looking for an antiaging skin care cream that will regrow skin, you'll be interested to understand why excess EGF causes some hair loss.
The growth of new epithelial cells narrows the pore through which the hair grows. Over time the hair becomes thinner and thinner until it become vellus (peach fuzz) hair.
The follicle may be so smothered that it stops producing hair altogether. That's how effective EGF is in producing new skin cells!
For a woman, the only area of concern for hair loss caused by EGF is the hairline. So I suggest that if you try the RéVive creams and serums you avoid the hairline when applying.
If using EGF still concerns you, I recommend you try an antiaging skin care cream containing active copper. This is another very affective amino acid polypeptide cell messenger and has been used in wound and burn healing since the 70s. Active copper has been called the first complete skin-remodeling ingredient because it assists in the demolition of old or abnormal skin cells as well as the rebuilding phase of laying down new normal tissue.
Active copper can remodel even old scars and stretch marks. Furthermore, it is reported to regrow thinning hair as well as aging or damaged skin. I suspect this is because the demolition work prevents overgrowth of the hair follicles.
The result is healthier younger looking skin and hair. Antiaging skin care products containing the patented form of GHK copper peptide, such as Neutrogena Visibly Firm or Nuglow are also less expensive than creams such as RéVive.
See my review (including photos) of copper peptide products. Notice that one of our test subjects experienced eyebrow regrowth.
This got us very interested in active copper products for thinning hair. We are about midway through a test of Folligen Cream for hair loss and the results look quite promising.
