Skin Care for Younger Women

What to Do at the First Sign of Wrinkles

I am a 29 year old female with fair, sensitive, and combination skin. I also tend to have a slightly uneven/blotchy skin tone.

If you would be so kind, I would love to get your advice on anti-aging skin care creams.

I have read too much on your site to be able to come to any conclusions on which products I might try myself.

My issue is I have started to notice the fine lines around the eyes (thinning skin there too), also the nasal fold lines (ahhhhh - I hate those two lines) and the laugh lines too.

If you could please advise a product for me to try I would forever be grateful. Cost is not an issue for me at this time.

Thank you so much.

Sarah

You asked specifically about anti-aging skin care creams, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention the basics first.

Broad-spectrum sun protection is the single most important thing you can do for your skin.

Let me prove it to you. Compare the skin on your face (which already shows beginning signs of sun damage) with an area of your body "where the sun doesn't shine". (LOL)

I bet you don't see any fine lines or wrinkles there.

SPF only guarantees protection against the sun's UVB rays - the Burning rays. I recommend one of the newer broad-spectrum sun-protection products that also protect against UVA rays - the Aging ones.

Your blotchiness may be helped by regular exfoliation. The gentle exfoliating ingredients found in OTC creams (AHAs and BHAs) can be used daily, or less frequently if your skin becomes irritated.

There are also OTC creams with skin-brighteners like licorice root and hydroquinone. My fave is Olay Regenerist Targeted Tone Enhancer.

If this doesn't help, see a dermatologist who can prescribe something stronger like Retin-A, Renova or a higher concentration of hydroquinone.

Finally, for your anti-aging cream, I recommend Peter Thomas Roth Wrinkle Preventer which is high in powerful antioxidants and contains the amazing new Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1.

The antioxidants are to prevent free radical damage from sources other than the sun (pollution and the body's own biochemical processes). The Tripeptide stimulates collagen production to fill in lines and wrinkles, as well as inhibits the body's anticollagenase activity to preserve the collagen you have.

With your sensitive skin, you should only add one new product at a time. If you do have an adverse reaction, you will know which product caused it right away.

Don't consider that purchase a waste of money. Save the ingredient list in a file folder. Once you have collected several of these lists, start comparing them to identify common ingredients.

When you've narrowed them down, you can avoid products that are likely to bother your sensitive skin before you buy.
