Maintaining a Youthful Look

Tips on How to Keep That Youthful Glow to Your Skin

Hello! I'm glad I found your website since there is so much confusion out there with skin care products.

I have tried Meaningful Beauty, Arbonne and many over-the-counter products as well.

I haven't found something that I have really loved however.

I did like how light the Meaningful Beauty products felt but don't like having the auto shipments.

I need a product that is oil free especially around the eyes.

However I still want something that will begin to diminish wrinkles and brighten up my skin.

I guess I'm looking for that glow that everyone wants and I'm tired of jumping from product to product. I would like something affordable.

Can you recommend a line for me?

I am 33 years old with very little sun damage. I would like a cleanser, moisturizer, exfoliator, whatever it is I should be doing at this age to keep my skin's elasticity and prevent wrinkles.

This is a tough question.

You’re looking for one line to meet all your needs but you haven’t been satisfied with any line you have tried.

Perhaps that is because cosmeceutical science is advancing at such a rapid pace. It’s difficult to believe you’re using the very best products when there are so many new ones coming onto the scene every day. It is quite confusing. I hope I can provide some guidance.

My focus is on effective ingredients. Before I test the feel of a product, I want to know what it contains.

I’m not a chemist but I have a couple of rules of thumb which I use to gauge whether an ingredient is contained in sufficient strength to be effective.

First, since ingredients are listed in descending order by volume, one can try to judge whether the active ingredients are highly concentrated (in the upper two-thirds of the list) or just an afterthought (bottom third).

Second, if I find the active ingredient near the bottom but am still curious, I check competitors’ products which contain the ingredient and see where it is listed in their formulas. I especially look for highly-respected companies that have a long history in the business.

You liked the feel of Meaningful Beauty, but did you check the ingredients?

In my opinion, Meaningful Beauty is light on active skin care ingredients, especially for anti-aging.

Arbonne's anti-aging skin care line (NutriMin RE9), on the other hand has all of the latest anti-aging ingredients and in sufficient strength to be effective.

I wonder what it was you didn’t like about Arbonne?

If you decide to try it again, take before digital photos (front and profile). After four weeks, take another set of photos. Then bring the before and after pictures up side by side on your computer screen and zoom in to the area with wrinkles.

I think you’ll be amazed at the REsults. [That’s how Arbonne spells “Results”. They also use “REvolutionary” and “REactivating”.]

As for another complete skin care line you could try, I love Neutrogena products, especially those with active copper.

Neutrogena also has a product containing Helioplex, the latest in sun protection. Helioplex is effective after application for twice as long as any prior UVA sun screen ingredient; and it protects against a broader spectrum of the sun’s rays.

In summary, at your age you need: good sun protection (broad spectrum and SPF of at least 15); antioxidants to fight free radical damage; exfoliants to give you “that certain glow” by removing dead surface cells; moisturizers to keep the skin plump and to support the skin’s glycan network; and active anti-aging ingredients to stop collagen loss and glycation damage.

Look for anti-aging skin care in cosmeceutical peptides and in active vitamin C.
