Skin Care at 40

Your Skin Needs More Support As You Age

Hi there, Love your site! I am so happy that you are helping me to understand the differences of products and what is in each of them. But my mind is overwhelmed as to what to buy.

I am 40 with the beginnings of mild redness/capillary issues. I want tightening and collagen renewal but don't have a lot of wrinkles as of now. The redness and tightening are my main concerns.

I am thinking of getting the Revaleskin Coffeeberry cream but what else should I get?

I feel like I should go buy tons of creams but don't want to over-do it and waste money and time.

Thanks for your help.....I am so glad I found your site!

Sonja

I’m so glad you found us too!

You’re on the right track with Revaleskin because antioxidants are the best “medicine” for maintaining capillary flexibility.

After decades of pumping blood, the tiny capillaries (and even some larger veins) simply give out and can no longer contract. They remain distended, resulting in unsightly spider veins.

The lower extremities (especially at the ankles) and the nose/cheek area are the most vulnerable: the lower extremities because the veins are pumping a great distance against gravity (all the way up to the heart when you’re standing or sitting); the face because it is subjected to so much environmental stress – UV rays, pollution, extremes of heat and cold. It’s the one part of our bodies that we hardly ever cover. Spicy foods and alcohol can also contribute to facial spider veins.

I get so many questions similar to yours that I have come up with a simple but graphic presentation to help people manage and adjust their skin care regimens as they age. See the article Step Up Your Skin Care.

I also hear a lot of people say, “I can’t use so many products every day” or “Layering all these products is getting ridiculous.”

My response to that has two parts: thank goodness for combination products; and an understanding of how the skin ages can help to decide when to add something to your skin care routine.

From what you’ve said, my guess is your skin is in its early 30s on the Step Up Your Skin Care chart. At this age, you should be using good sun protection, moisturizer and antioxidants. You may want to start exfoliating and in a few years you should consider adding peptides.

You’ll find product recommendations for each category in the links at the bottom of the article.
