Growth in Anti-Aging Skin Care Options for Men
The choices for men's anti-aging skincare are growing rapidly.
I'm not sure why men are becoming more interested in the anti-aging and health benefits of topical anti-aging products, but they clearly are.
I can see it personally in my Ageless Beauty mailbox. I never used to receive questions or comments from men; now I receive several every week.
I also see it in the success of brands developed specifically for men such as MenScience, Lab Series, Clinique for Men, and Clarins for Men.
It's interesting to note that three of the four brands above have chosen scientific-sounding terms for men's lines: science, lab and clinic.
Maybe marketers have decided that men can be more easily convinced to buy when presented with scientific information. It makes me wonder if I am in the minority of women who want that kind of hard fact.
It could be that as co-workers, wives and girlfriends take steps to stave off the ravages of time, men feel pressured or motivated to pay more attention to maintaining their youthful looks. Perhaps they simply recognize that there are health benefits to having youthful skin.
The skin is, after all, the body's largest organ and its barrier against all sorts of environmental assaults from UV rays to bacterial and fungal infections.
I just read that the market for men's personal care products is experiencing double digit growth - pretty impressive during a recession.
Whatever the reason, I welcome male readers to Ageless Beauty and look forward to the insights they can add to our quest to grow older healthfully and as slowly as possible while retaining our youthful looks.
Anti-Aging Cosmetics for Men
As I see it, anti-aging skincare is a health issue as much as an appearance one. Cosmetics can hardly be said to improve one's health; however more men are getting on that bandwagon too. Why?
As I suggested above, "It could be that as co-workers, wives and girlfriends take steps to stave off the ravages of time, men feel pressured or motivated to pay more attention to maintaining their youthful looks."
Youth, or the appearance of youth, is undeniably an advantage in the workplace. Study after study confirms that youthful good looks are not only a social advantage but also give one a leg up on the job.
I think it's nice that men no longer have to borrow their girlfriend's or wife's concealer stick or foundation to cover blemishes, dark circles or uneven skin tone. They can march right up to the makeup counter and ask for The Men Pen Concealer Stick or Colorscience Metro Menerals Primer (Minerals For Men to sooth and smooth sensitive skin after shaving.) to match their skin tone.
I'm glad that my DH cares enough about his appearance to dye his gray locks using permanent hair color designed for men. The men's versions generally work faster and are formulated to cover gray rather then completely change one's natural hair color.
As a bonus (and women with thinning hair have known this for ages) hair dyes coat each hair strand for a noticeable and long-lasting thickening effect.
