Do It Yourself Skin Care

Anti-Aging Skin Care - How to Do It Yourself

I am looking for an effective, affordable anti-aging skin care line. I have been looking at Arbonne, Mary Kay, Aloette and Grace.

Is there one I can get from a drug store? Do you have any recommendations?

I live in a small city with limited access.

Help!

Thanks,

Carol

Your question surprises me a bit because you say you want an affordable skin care line, yet two of the four on your list are MLMs (Arbonne and Mary Kay),

Aloette is a franchised line and Grace (label name "Cell Renewal Systems") is available only to licensed estheticians to sell to their customers in spas and salons.

In all cases, you pay a substantial markup over products you buy at regular retail.

This may be good value to you if you need a lot of guidance regarding your skin care.

The MLM/franchise representatives and the estheticians are specifically trained to assess your skin and recommend suitable treatments and products (within the line(s) they carry).

Anti-Aging Skin Care - How to Do It Yourself

If you feel you can assess your own skin condition well enough and want to Do It Yourself, I can help.

Yes, there are excellent products you can buy at the drug store. There are also wonderful coordinated anti-aging skin care lines in your price range which you can buy direct.

You have great timing. I just finished updating my Top Ten Affordable Skin Care Picks, as well as my Top Ten Skin Care Picks regardless of cost.

Every one of these products has at least one state-of-the-art anti-aging ingredient. Most have several.

As for drug store lines, you'll see that Olay and Neutrogena have two products on my Affordable Top Ten. RoC is also an excellent anti-aging line available in drug stores.

If you can afford to pay more, Peter Thomas Roth has been a favorite of mine for a long time, but anti-aging science keeps advancing.

I now also love RéVive for its EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) and Révaleskin for its Coffeeberry.

If you can't find them locally, they are all available online (often at substantial discount to retail).

Go to our Shopping Page or click on the product links in any of the articles I mention here.

If you decide to DYI your anti-aging skin care, be sure to include (in order of importance):

  • 1. Broad spectrum sun protection including SPF of at least 15;
  • 2. The best moisturizers in class;
  • 3. Antioxidants like Coffeeberry - but not just one, the more the better;
  • 4. Exfoliants (prescription Retin-A or Renova, or OTC products especially retinoids) to slough dead dull skin cells and increase cell renewal; and
  • 5. Plumping and lifting peptides.

If I can be of any further help, please write again.
