Finding "Sucess Fou" Perfume

I am trying to find a ladies’ perfume called Succes Fou. It was made by Wouters perfumers.

Please if you could find it for me let me know because I would like to place an order.

To help you more, this perfume has a wooden box and the bottle of the perfume is rounded from the bottom.

Ah, you’re looking for a classic and it will not be easy. Lucky is the special woman on your Christmas list!

The fragrance, Succès Fou, was designed in the 1950s by the famous fashion and fragrance designer, Elsa Schiaparelli.

In addition to Succès Fou, she created numerous perfumes including Salut, Soucis, Shocking, Sleeping, Snuff, Le Roy Soleil, Zut, Eau de Sante, Verveine, Sport, Si, S, So Sweet and Shocking You.

The only two which are still in production or have been revived are Shocking and Zut.

You can occasionally find a Succès Fou bottle offered at auction, but it may not contain any perfume. I saw one offered at a Lalique crystal perfume bottle auction two years ago.

The catalogue described it thus, “Success Fou,” a perfume bottle for Schiaparelli, circa 1953, in white glass with enameled and gilt detail, in heart-shaped display box.” And listed an estimated value of $900 – for the bottle and box alone!

“Succès fou” translates as “roaring success” and is a reference to “Les Amoureux de Peynet” - "The Lovers of Peynet” cartoon series, by Raymond Peynet.

Peynet collaborated with Schiaparelli to design the perfume bottle and box. His two lovers’ series of cartoons were a roaring success in the 30s and 40s and appeared in many of the upscale magazines of the day.

Check eBay from time to time to see if this is offered. Right now, (December 2005) it isn’t.

You probably will have to go to an upscale auction house such as Sotheby’s or to a specialist in fine perfumes.
