NightSkin
Dr. Perry's Version of Anti-Aging Skin Care
I just found your site and it looks like I can write in with a question and it may show up on your website with an answer, so I am going to try that.
My question is, have you heard of the formula called NightSkin by Dr. Perry? If so, what do you think of it?
Should I check your website for an answer of would you write back directly?
Thanks.
Geri
Dr. Perry has excellent credentials.
He is a board certified cosmetic surgeon, has written a book titled Straight Talk about Cosmetic Surgery and hosts his own radio show which features a different topic on cosmetic surgery each week.
Since the full ingredient list is not to be found anywhere on the Internet, I can only comment on the ingredients Dr. Perry highlights on his website. In a nutshell, they make a wonderful anti-aging cocktail.
There is ample research behind the wrinkle-reducing power of Retinyl Propionate and Glycolic Acid.
The L-Ascorbic Acid form of Vitamin C is an excellent antioxidant and the only form you should put on your skin.
Licorice extract is a very good skin clarifier/brightener.
I cant evaluate the formula overall because, not having access to the full ingredient list, I dont know the concentrations of these active ingredients, nor what other ingredients are in the products.
I can make only a few comments with this limited information.
1. Most experts believe that a mix of antioxidants is better than one. Different antioxidants protect different types of cells and even different parts of cells.
2. It appears that NightSkin contains no anti-aging peptides. Though I am a strong believer in the anti-aging power of peptides, many members of the medical community are not yet convinced.
3. I am skeptical of Dr. Perrys statement that "There is a proven risk of addiction associated with moisturizers."
[He is not alone in this belief. Obagi and NuDerm also talk about the dangers of over-moisturizing.]
I wrote to NightSkin asking for study references which support this theory.
This is the reply I received.
"There are no conclusive studies but it is the doctors opinion stating that people can become addicted to moisturizers because they become so comfortable with the routine of constantly using them that they cant seem to get themselves to stop (thus being addicted) "
The doctors opinion [is] that using moisturizers can make the skin age in two ways.
First, if you are constantly applying lotion excessively the body will stop producing the natural oils that it needs to stay young, soft (which also leads to the addiction).
Second, because of all of the chemicals found in a lot of the moisturizers, eventually that constant exposure will take its toll causing the skin to age."
NightSkin costs $70 an ounce but offers a more cost-effective "buy2-get1 free" auto-ship program, which would bring the per ounce cost down to $47.
I urge caution to anyone signing up for an auto-ship program and, were I to try Dr. Perrys products, I would start by ordering just one bottle and perhaps his book!
