Morning Skin Care

My Morning Skin Care Routine

I think your information is extremely helpful, and as a skin care junkie it helps to know that expensive is not always the best.

Just 2 quick questions about your own am routine, how long does it take for you to put on all the cremes and potions each am, and I was always under the impression that serums go on first.

I have mild rosacea, and use Metrocream, but at 59 I want to avoid wrinkles and unnecessary aging, my skin is dry to normal, can I use the same regime as you do?

Kathy

Thank you. I’m so glad you are finding my website to be of help.

I do my morning face routine in two parts – before and after dressing. This allows the first creams and serum to be completely absorbed.

I rinse my face with cool to warm water; pat dry and apply Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle. This is a super-potent anti-aging peptide serum and you are correct – the serum goes first. It soaks in instantly. No need to wait.

Then I apply Neutrogena Visibly Firm to any areas that are irritated. (This is a night cream but I use it morning and night.) The active copper tripeptide is marvelous for calming and healing.

Next comes Neutrogena Ultra Sheer, Dry-Touch Sunblock.

[ Update: After reporting research results on topical coffeeberry in my Top Anti-Aging Developments of 2007, I added Reváleskin to my morning skin care routine for an extra antioxidant boost.]

When I’m ready to apply my makeup, I start with a daytime moisturizer (depending on how dry my skin feels, which varies with the weather) and then apply makeup. Not counting makeup application, I think my total "face time" is less than three minutes.

I know with the rosacea you have to be careful of some ingredients. All the products I mentioned are hypoallergenic, meaning they do not irritatemost people.

You need a little extra caution. When you add new products do so one at a time, so if any one causes discomfort you know right away which one is the offender.
