8% Matrixyl
Are Higher Concentrations of Matrixyl Better?
I've used both the Prevage and PTR products that you mentioned and liked them both, but I've always wanted to find a product with Matrixyl 3000 at 8% as I understand it is the highest dispensed level, but haven't been able to find one.
Do you know of any?
Thanks.
You've probably read that Matrixyl 3000 has been shown to be effective in the 3 to 8% range.
Sederma, the manufacturer, doesn't state at which percent it is most effective and that could vary by individual.
It is important to understand that more is not necessarily better.
There is a tight range within which Matrixyl 3000 has been shown to be very effective. Outside of this range, it imay be ineffective or even deleterious.
It's interesting to me that the company website features the test results achieved with a 3% concentration of Matrixyl 3000.
"Clinical studies show that Matrixyl™ 3000 lifts and firms the skin, significantly reducing the appearance of wrinkles. After only 2 months, the surface area of the skin occupied by deep wrinkles (> 200µm) was reduced by 45% on average."
The study also revealed a 37% decrease in main wrinkle density; a 15% decrease in main wrinkle average depth; a 19% decrease in main wrinkle average volume; a 14% decrease in surface roughness; and a 17% improvement in firmness ("lifting effect"). This was all at a 3% concentration.
I suspect Sederma wants to present its product in the best light but there are two sides to that.
They need a balance between effectiveness and affordability. Cosmeceutical manufacturers can make more profit using a 3% Matrixyl 3000 formula.
However, consumers will be best persuaded by the most impressive study results.
Bottom line, I can't conclude whether 3% is better than 8% or vice versa. I only know I wouldn't want to buy anything containing Matrixyl 3000 in a concentration outside this range.
Following are some products that contain Matrixyl 3000 in the 3 to 8% range.
Skinourishment by Skinutrition: 8% Matrixyl 3000
In addition to Matrixyl 3000, Skinourishment contains good moisturizers and lots of nice botanicals.
Mychelle Supreme Polypeptide Cream (scented or unscented): 8% Matrixyl 3000
In addition, this cream contains the strongest moisturizer known (Sodium Hyaluronate, a.k.a. Hyaluronic Acid), Marine Oligopeptide, good antioxidants (D-Alpha Tocopherol a.k.a. Vitamin E, Astaxanthin and Green Tea Heart), the exfoliant Retinol and calming/healing ingredients (Honey, Chamomile Extract and Aloe Vera).
Very nice formulation at an affordable price.
Isomers Matrixyl 3000™ for Face and Isomers Rejuvenation Serum: 3 and 6% Matrixyl 3000 respectively.
These are both serums rather than creams.
If you want to avoid a lot of extra ingredients (as are found in the Mychelle products), these are good to try.
The ingredient lists are very simple. In addition to the Matrixyl 3000, they contain Linseed Oil Extract, humectants as thickeners and delivery agents and preservatives to stabilize and prolong shelf life.
Peter Thomas Roth UnWrinkle: 3% Matrixyl
Peter Thomas Roth UnWrinkle is a skin anti-aging powerhouse and tops my list of the best anti-aging skin care products.
UnWrinkle is a serum like the Isomers products.
While it is the most expensive on this list, in addition to a 3% concentration of Matrixyl 3000, it contains 4% SYN-NAKE, 10% SNAP-8 (chemically related to Argirline but more effective), 3% SYN-COLL (Tripeptide-5) and 3% Argireline.
