Vitamin B for Hair LossVitamin B's Use in Controlling Hair LossI am 24 years old and I experience diffuse hair loss that has settled down some after eight years. I’m also on a combo of Phytophanere and multivitamin along with iron supplement, I have new growth all over my head. A month ago, I started using Bain Prevention and it does wonders for my thinning hair. Each hair strand is thicker and when I shower, I only have a few hairs down the drain. However, my question is regarding Bain Age Recharge, from the Kerastase Resistance line. The hairdresser who sold the Bain Prevention advised me to use the Bain Age Recharge when I finish the shampoo as it contains vitamin B3 which will reactivate cellular exchange and stimulate hair growth. I started to use it a week ago and it makes my hair fall out. I use it with the mask Age Recharge and I can't understand why this makes my hair fall. I have used it two times only. That is strange given that it contains 2-oleamido-1, 3-octadecanediol which is patented as a hair loss ingredient. Can you advise me on this? With thanks,
Nathalie Vitamin B SupplementsVitamin B supplements are sometimes prescribed for hair loss.In fact, Phytophanere Hair Loss Supplement is chock full of B Vitamins as well as Biotin and some other ingredients which have shown promise for the treatment of hair loss, especially Y-Orizanol, Y-Linolenic Acid, Eicosapentaenoic Acid and Docosahexaenoic Acid.
Topical Vitamin BTopical Vitamin B3 (Niacin) has been shown to increase ceramide and free fatty acid levels in skin which helps skin retain moisture and stimulates microcirculation (The British Journal of Dermatology September 2000 and The Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology April 2004).All these effects could contribute to smoother, healthier looking skin. The increased microcirculation might be helpful to failing hair follicles.
Your Kerastase ProductsYou’ve had success with Kerastase Bain Specifique, as have others of my readers, so please stick with that.L’Oreal does not market its Kerastase Resistance line for thinning hair but rather to strengthen and give volume to fine hair. This would make whatever hair you have appear thicker. When you mention a hair treatment patent for 2-Oleamido-1,3-octadecanediol, are you referring to U.S. Patent 6015574? This patent is for a formula designed to deliver phospholipids to “color-treated hair, dry hair, fine hair, and damaged hair” – which is exactly what L’Oreal is using the formula for in the Resistance products. The patented formula includes the ceramide 2-Oleamido-1,3-octadecanediol and the patent application states that, “In products for chemically treated hair and fine hair, the ceramide 2-Oleamido-1,3-octadecanediol is useful. Other ceramides could also be used.” Beauticians frequently use or recommend volumizers for thinning hair, but if something in the Resistance line is triggering more hair loss for you, it really cancels out the benefit of added volume doesn’t it? If you hair loss continues to worsen, it might be a good idea to see a doctor who specializes in hair loss for women. There might be hormonal imbalances at play that can be corrected.
