Ginseng
The Many Benefits of Ginseng
Ginseng is a herb that's supposed to make insulin more efficient at converting sugar in the blood into fuel. It has been used for centuries in China and Asia, as well as by native American Indians.
In China ginseng is used for stomach and nervous disorders. In the west, it is considered a mild stomach tonic and stimulant, useful to treat loss of appetite and digestive problems arising from mental and nervous exhaustion.
Among the many benefits of ginseng use, are: strengthening the body; improving memory; increasing vitality and endurance: stress reduction; helping combat fatigue; strengthening the immune system and fending off disease; regulating metabolism and treating sleep disorders and overcoming insomnia.
Ginseng has had beneficial effects on women suffering from post-menopausal symptoms.
Ginseng contains ginsenocides (or panaxosides) which have been shown to act as adaptogens, agents necessary to help the body adapt to and recover from the effects of stress, disease, and fatigue.
They also contain strong anti-oxidant components that have been shown to aid in combating the effects of aging.
Finally ginsenocides contain anti-inflammatory ingredients that aid in pain relief, and a regulate blood sugar levels, cholesterol levels, and blood pressure.
Ginseng also contains several steroidal compounds, including panaxtriol.
These are similar to anabolic steroids found naturally in the human body. This makes it a safe treatment for post-menopausal women, well as a way for athletes to obtain steriods in a natural and safe manner.
Researchers at the University of Connecticut have established that ginseng does enhance mood and energy levels.
There are four major varieties of ginseng:
Sometimes they are sold as white or red ginseng, but the color appears to have no effect on the active ingredients.
Siberian ginseng is not a true ginseng, but is a distantly related member of the ivy family. The active ingredients in Siberian ginseng are called eleutherosides and have a similar function to ginsenocides, making Siberian ginseng a cheaper substitute for the other varieties.
The Asian ginsengs are considered milder and have less of the active ingredients contained in the American variety. As a result American ginseng is valued more in Asia.
If you wish to obtain the benefits of all the different types of ginseng, you can purchase Action Labs Ginseng PowerMax 4X Capsules which contain all four variants.
It is recommended that you not take the Asian varieties of ginseng for more than two or three months at a time. The American version is safer for long term use.
Also don't take it too close to bedtime.
It appears that modern western medicine is taking ancient herbal remedies more and more seriously.
