Do Folligen Copper Peptide Hair Products Regrow Hair?

Three months ago, we started a very small scale test of Folligen hair regrowth products after some surprising results with another product containing active copper - Neutrogena Visibly Firm Night Cream.

One of our subscribers, "Mary" wrote and volunteered to be our guinea pig. She wrote,

"I have androgenic baldness and my hairline has been receding for thirty years. By my mid-thirties, no amount of styling products and creative arranging could hide the fact anymore.

So I started wearing wigs. I would love to feel the wind through my hair, to be able to jump into the pool with my friends and to feel my husbands' fingers run through my hair as they did in younger days. All these things are impossible for me because of the wigs.

Even a minimal amount of regrowth would make it easier to secure my wig. I'm forever fearful that it will slip out of place. I have nightmares about that! Would you consider letting me test the Folligen products for your readers?"

We provided the Folligen. Mary promised before and after photos and a written report. Here they are:

"I started using Folligen cream and lotion April 5 of this year. The cream is recommended for bald areas like the "widow's peak" and the lotion for where one has general thinning. The company says to apply them three times a week or every other night, allowing them to work overnight before your morning shower.

I quickly found I prefer the lotion because it's easier to apply and less gunky. Also I figured that, since I wear a wig all day; I could put the lotion on in the morning and cover it with my wig. That way it would have 24 hours to work before being washed out.

It really required patience to stick with the program because, on a day to day basis, I couldn't discern much improvement. So I was pretty amazed to compare the before (April 5) and after photos (July 11). I was asked to have them taken in profile and with my hair slicked back so that the hairline (or lack thereof!) would be clearly visible.

This is better and faster regrowth than I ever achieved with Minoxidil after six years of use. All I ever got was peach fuzz (vellus hair) which fell out as soon as I stopped using the product.

My hairline has come forward about an inch. The new hair is between two and four inches long - so definitely terminal hair not vellus. That is, except for the widow's peak - the new hairs there took longer to get started and I can't be sure yet whether they will continue to grow or will fall out after a couple inches as vellus hair does.

I can say at this point that the area is no longer shiny bald as it was. I'm simply amazed to see any hair growing where none has grown for 15 or 20 years!

What I see comparing the before and after photos is significantly less forehead and much thicker hair on the side of my head. Just look at the distance between my eye and the start of my hairline!

I'm submitting one other after photo to show something that is a bit odd. The new hair in the center of my forehead is coarser than the rest of my hair which is very fine. And it is curly! Ask me if I mind.

I am so encouraged by the results that I asked Ageless Beauty if they would allow me to continue the test for another three months and they graciously agreed. Also I plan to use the Folligen every day rather than every other day to see if that makes any difference.
