Folic Acid
The Health Benefits of Folic Acid & Other B Vitamins
Is it true folic acid will lower cholesterol.
Thank you,
Jane
Folic Acid aids in the formation of blood cells, synthesizes nucleic acids and lowers homocysteine levels in combination with Vitamins B6 and B-12.
Homocysteine is an amino acid normally found in small amounts in the blood. However, high levels of homocysteine in the blood may promote plaque buildup in blood vessels that may, over time, lead to cardiovascular problems, including stroke, heart attack and coronary artery disease.
So by increasing your blood levels of folic acid and the B vitamins you will be decreasing your risk of heart problems.
Some of the other B vitamins, such as B5, B6 and Biotin act to either reduce cholesterol or metabolize it.
So a B complex vitamin which contains folic acid, biotin and other B vitamins, should be helpful in reducing cholesterol levels.

If you have high cholesterol or heart problems, consult your physician before relying on vitamins.
