Staying Fit at 60

Be Healthy, Younger Looking and Fit in Your 60's

Staying Young in Your Sixties with Diet and Exercise

Once you hit your sixties, it becomes increasingly important to take great care of yourself.

You want to feel good and look fantastic, and the one sure way to accomplish that is to exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet.

It may not sound like a lot of fun, but taking care of yourself can be a blast and you stand to gain desirable benefits from it. You’ll have more energy, feel stronger, and look ten years younger.

After making a little adjustment to your routine, you’ll probably start noticing the difference in less than a week, and after six weeks, you’ll feel brand new!

Exercise

Often, when we think of exercise, we think of sweaty skin and a racing heart, cramps and aches, and none of this sounds very appealing.

But exercise doesn’t have to be painful.

Try taking a twenty minute walk three times a week.

That’s enough to get your heart rate up while working the muscles throughout your body.

Make sure you stretch before and after your walks, because otherwise your muscles are more likely to cramp up, leaving you feeling sore and tired the next day.

Another great but gentle form of exercise is yoga.

This involves stretching and building endurance through a series of poses that work your body without hurting it or putting you in a sweat.

Yoga’s so popular these days, there’s sure to be a beginners class in your neighborhood, and if you’re not interested in working out in a group setting, you can always get a video or instructional tape, which will guide you in your new routine.

Before you start a new exercise program, it’s important you check with your doctor, especially if you have any existing conditions that might be affected through physical movement or increased heart rate. And be sure you drink plenty of water to get oxygen into your body!

Diet and Nutrition

One sure way to lower your energy and put on extra pounds is by having a poor diet.

Frozen dinners and fast food may seem like easy solutions at suppertime, but you’ll pay later for taking those shortcuts.

Get interested in food!

Take a cooking class, browse the aisles at your local organic food market, and seek out healthy alternatives to high cholesterol, fatty desserts. Stock up on fresh and delicious fruits and vegetables, and start enjoying your meals while staying healthy!

Your local bookstore will have a full stock of health-conscious cookbooks, so invest in a couple of those and invest in your health.

One of the most important things you can do as you age is to maintain a consistent body weight.
