Treating Fine Lines Around the Eyes
Hi Jean,
I am so happy you got back to me! I was worried I wrote too much to get a response.
However, I just realized that I don't think you touched upon what was truly the reason I found your site. I was searching for solutions for fine lines under the eyes.
I know this is the most sensitive area of the face. You recommended a product for the circles, but truthfully I am more concerned about the lines!
Also I do have two more questions if you don't mind.
One, I have had oily (shiny) skin since junior high. Thankfully I have always had clear skin with no acne, but I used to always be in need of facial powder (those blotting papers are a life saver for me these days).
My dermatologist did tell me I could use Retin-A, but if I recall correctly the samples were too harsh on my face and didn't seem worth the hassle at the time (three years ago).
Does this make a difference with your recommendations? (See Antiaging Formula - Part One, Antiaging Formula - Part Two and Antiaging Formula - Part Three.)
Two, I have been curious about Hylexin since I first saw it in the store. You didn't mention it in your [earlier] response.
Do you recommend the Kinerase line over Hylexin?
Thank you again,
Nicole
For fine lines and wrinkles, the best products on the market today are those containing peptides. The main difference between face and eye creams in the same line is that the eye creams are gentler.
As you note, the eye area is quite sensitive. The skin surrounding the eyes is thinner and any chemicals that get too close to the eye itself can cause burning and irritation.
If you don't have sensitive eyes, you can use your peptide face cream around the eye area as well. Just take care.
My current fave is Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle.
If your eyes are sensitive, I suggest you try Kinerase Under Eye Rescue. It contains one of the tripeptides - in my opinion the greatest skin anti-aging breakthrough yet.
Read about tripeptides in my Cosmeceutical Peptide Glossary.
Now I understand why your dermatologist didn't recommend something stronger to treat acne. You are blessed with oily skin that's doesn't break out!
I speak from experience when I tell you that dry skin ages much faster than oily. As long as you're happy with your oil control regimen and the blotting papers, stick with them.
If you would like to try exfoliation again but with a gentler product than Retin A, I recommend Avon Clinical Advanced Wrinkle Corrector. It uses AHAs, BHAs and fruit extracts for exfoliation and comes in a light silky feeling base. I love the feel of it.
I am working on updating my two top ten lists. Based on customer feedback and more recent research, I will likely move Kinerase up the list. If you try one of the Kinerase products, please let me know what you think.
P.S. I just read about a primer for oily skin. It promises to make your foundation last hours longer without shine. You might want to try Lumene Beauty Base available at CVS. Perhaps you can ditch those blotting papers!
