Top Anti-Aging Eye Creams for Men and Women

Do Men Require Different Anti-Aging Skin Care? The online Wall Street Journal Magazine recently published an article on "six luxury eye creams - three for women and three for men".

Though I realize that tapping the male market for anti-aging skincare requires a different branding and advertising strategy, I found it odd that the author thought ingredients should vary by sex as well.

Skincare products are best selected according to one’s skin type (normal, oily, combination) and condition (uneven tone, wrinkled, dry, etc.).

As for anti-aging skincare, women have a strong advantage in the broad range of formulas marketed for their skin concerns.

I’m not impressed with the WSJ product selections for men, but think they made three excellent choices for women: Esteé Lauder Resilience Lift Extreme Eye Cream, RéVive Eye Renewal Cream and Laboratoire Remede Hydra Therapy Eye Crème.

Lots of peptides to stimulate collagen growth, antioxidants to fend off free radicals and skin identical ingredients to boost the skin’s barrier function.

By comparison the choices for men are decidedly wimpy from an anti-aging (science) perspective: Lab Series Age Rescue Eye Therapy, Shiseido Men Eye Soother and Yves Saint Laurent Age Defying Eye Cream. No peptides, just a lot of botanical extracts - some of which are known irritants.

When I was a teenager, my friends and I would often shop for casual shirts and jeans in the menswear department because the products had higher quality and lower prices. I suggest the guys follow that strategy for a while when they shop for anti-aging skincare.

My top pick from the WSJ list? RéVive Eye Renewal Cream with Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF).

I did learn one thing from the WSJ article. Dr. Stanley Cohen won a Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for his discovery of EGF.
