In Dr Watts' words, "Complexions by Dr Watts skin care line was created to fill a void that existed in the world of Plastic Surgery. Many Dermatologic lines are on the market, however, a skin care line specifically designed from a Plastic Surgery perspective is virtually non-existent.

Working with the knowledgeable scientists at IGI we were able to create a revolutionary line using the Novasome® Technology to prolong or prevent the need for Plastic Surgery as well as maintain the surgical result achieved once a Plastic Surgical procedure has been completed."

Sounds good, right? So I wondered why it currently rates only 2.5 stars (out of 5) based on 52 reviews at HSN Beauty. Maybe it's not a product one would be inclined to pay $40 an ounce for. [ The rating had gone up to 4.4 by the end.]

However a poor rating can sometimes be due to unrealistic expectations created by marketing hype. So I took a look at the formula for Complexions by Dr Watts Age Defying Facial Beauty Treatment - now sold out and no longer available.

Novasome® Technology, which Dr Watts mentions, is a patented form of nanotechnology. Nanotechnology is routinely used in anti-aging skin care products today.

In the top half of the ingredient list are some skin tighteners (starches) which should provide an immediate, though temporary, reduction of visible wrinkles. As well there are: GABA (one of the Botox-mimicking ingredients that help relax facial muscles); and soothing ingredients like Aloe.

Dr Watts Age Defying Facial Beauty Treatment also contains three excellent cosmeceutical peptides.

However I was quite disappointed to find them at the very bottom of the ingredient list: Palmitoyl Oligopeptide (43 out of 47), Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 and Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 (46 and 47 of 47 respectively). That can indicate there may not be enough to have much effect at all.

After plastic surgery, I expect this would be a very soothing cream. It may have long term skin anti-aging benefit if used consistently (due to the GABA). The moisturizers and temporary tighteners would also tend to support a more youthful-looking skin.

And for beauty's sake, use a broad spectrum sun protection product. It's the most important step you can take to preserve youthful-looking, healthy skin.
