DermaWand Review
Should You Buy the DermaWand Facial Device?
Hello again,
I saw the DermaWand infomerical last night and looked on your site to see if you've reviewed this product yet or not.
It doesn't look like you have yet and I was wondering if you have heard anything positive or negative about it?
BTW, your Thermage before and after pictures look great - are you still happy with the results?
Thanks,
Amrita
Thank you. Yes, I'm still happy with my Thermage results; but, if you read this month's newsletter, you probably surmised that I'm not likely to go through it again.
DermaWand High Frequency Facial Wand Review
If you've ever had a professional facial where the esthetician ran a wand over and over your face, you know the wonderful "champagne bubble" sensation. Perhaps you also recall the distinctive ozone smell, as well and how relaxed your face felt after the treatment.
Such facial wands deliver high frequency pulses to the skin that literally massage the cells like thousands of tiny little fingers. The effect is invigorating and relaxing at the same time.
The ozone, or enriched oxygen, is created by the high frequency pulses passing through neon or argon gas contained in the bulb at the wand's tip. At the same time the thousands of "tiny fingers" are massaging, they are driving enriched oxygen into the skin and underlying tissues.
This may not be a good thing if used to excess. Ozone molecules have an oxidizing effect on practically everything they come in contact with.
They can damage lung tissue, crops, plastics, rubber, paints, etc.
In humans, health symptoms include: dry mucous membranes in the mouth, nose, and throat; headaches; vision changes; lung congestion; and edema. The most susceptible to ozone dangers are the elderly, the sick, and babies.
The DermaWand massage stimulates circulation and helps skin care products (applied before treatment) to penetrate more deeply.
Creams containing exfoliants such as AHAs and BHAs should not be used before treatment. Such creams are formulated to strip away dead surface cells and should not be forced below the skin's surface.
The cell excitation of high frequency pulse massage is thought to increase cell metabolism and assist lymphatic drainage. The enriched oxygen has a germicidal effect that cleanses toxins from the skin.
Professional models of high frequency facial wands cost between $200 and $400.
The DermaWand, designed for home use, costs less than half the price of the pro versions.
An added advantage of buying the home use model is that you can enjoy the benefits of this invigorating facial treatment daily, if you like.
I have one concern about home use of such equipment: the greater potential for misuse in the hands of non-medically trained consumers.
The DermaWand site cautions that "more is not better with the DermaWand" and recommends 3-minute treatments twice daily.
Finally, the gas electrode bulbs last several years but they do wear out and or can break. To have the bulb replaced, you must ship the unit back to the company. Repplacment cost is $25.
