Copper Peptide Hair and Skin Care Product Test

The First Results of Our Copper Peptide Skin Care/Hair Care "Mini Clinical Trial"

As I mentioned elsewhere on this site, some of my friends and I have been conducting a mini-“clinical” trial of several copper peptide preparations, including Neutrogena Visibly Firm, Osmotics Blue Copper 5 and two

Folligen hair regrowth products, Folligen Cream and Folligen Lotion.

The reason we picked these products is that we were interested to see if they really were as revolutionary as claimed.

See the following articles for more on the science behind copper peptides: AntiAging Skin Care Using Copper Peptides and Copper Peptide Hair Treatments.

Copper Peptide Skin Care Products

Neutrogena Visibly Firm Night Cream is one of the more affordable creams containing active copper, the Osmotics product is significantly more expensive.

We rounded up a man, who had never used any skin care products before to play guinea pig and use the cream once a day on only one side of his face.

The women just added either the Neutrogena or Osmotics product to their skin care regime, in addition to or in place of their regular antiaging skin care products.

A Man’s Skin Care Tale

Our male volunteer, Jim, is 59. He has a typical receding hairline and was developing dark wrinkled bags under his eyes. His naso-labial folds were deepening and he had slight wrinkling on his forehead. He agreed to apply Visibily Firm to one side of his face.

Almost instantly after applying Visibily Firm under his eyes, the wrinkles began to smooth out. After a month of use, the discoloration and bags under his eye had undergone an amazing transformation, which I hope you can see in this picture (I won't tell you which side was treated, since I think the results are so obvious).

Also the naso-labial fold shortened and became less pronounced. Fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes were reduced, as was the wrinkling of his forehead.

Copper Peptide Trial

After one month, Jim and I were both amazed by the difference.

So to continue the test, he began to use the Osmotics product on the other side of his face. He reported that unlike the Visibily Firm, he experienced some tingling with the application of Copper Blue 5 and had a copper taste on his tongue the first few times he used it, as if he had placed a penny in his mouth.

Copper Blue 5 worked like Visibly Firm in removing lines and wrinkles. However, Jim has always had oily skin and the Copper Blue caused him to develop some acne. For that reason, I think Copper Blue is more appropriate for dry skin types.

Jim went to using Visibly Firm on both sides of his face. In addition to removing the bags and fine lines, he reported that his skin was much softer and firmer than before.

We women were equally thrilled. Our skin seemed to thicken as it firmed. Old scars and stretch marks began to fade along with lines and wrinkles other antiaging skin care products didn't affect.

I even had a sore that would not heal for quite some time, that disappeared after about 3 weeks of use.

Of course, this little experiment can not be considered “scientific” in any sense of the word.

However all us were impressed with the results and felt that the copper peptide skin care products work pretty much as advertised. Neutrogena Visibly Firm is less than half the cost of Osmotics Blue Copper 5, so I would recommend you try it, unless your skin is very dry.

Copper Peptide Hair Treatments

In addition to trying the copper peptide skin care products, Jim also applied Folligen Cream to his receding hairline. (the cream is meant for the hairline, the lotion for balding areas on the scalp.)

He reported that the hairs which were growing in very fine and falling out with increasing frequency, seemed to thicken and that hair loss almost ceased. He felt that the receding areas on the sides of his forehead were filling in a bit. Nothing dramatic. He has since stopped using the cream so we don’t know what his long term results would be.

Now here is something completely unexpected. At age 59, the eyebrows of one of our subjects, Sue, have done a bit of a disappearing act. Notice that the brow on the right (in the photo) does not have a nice little rounded comma shape above the inner eye.

Look closely at the area where the little rounded part used to be. Do you see a bit of a shadow suggesting the brow of her younger years?

Copper Peptide Results

That “shadow” is caused by new hairs sprouting. I didn’t think there was anything that would make hair grow where it hadn’t for many years and thought that hair follicles shriveled and died after a while of inactivity; but it seems they might only be hibernating!

These appear to be normal eyebrows hairs, not the so-called vellus hairs that many people get when using minoxidil to regrow hair.

Copper Peptide Results

Sue was convinced that the Visibly Firm with active copper peptide caused this hair regrowth; so I did more research on active copper for her.

Dr. Loren Pickart is a world-renowned researcher of copper peptide skin and hair treatment. On his website, Skin Biology, I found the following information.

“Skin remodeling starts with the hair follicles. The body's signal for remodeling first activates the systems that break down damaged proteins and remove damaged skin lesions. Various proteins … start breaking down scars and damaged tissue. Then the signals enlarge the hair follicles in the skin area to be rebuilt. New skin cells arise from the hair follicle and migrate into the surrounding skin area.

This effect was first noted about 50 years ago during World War II. It was observed in patients with severe burns and burn scars that if hair follicles began growing at the edge of the burned skin, then there was an excellent prognosis for removal of the scarred skin and its replacement by healthy, normal skin. If the follicles were not enlarging, the healing was poor and the burn scars remained.

Later, in 1985, I found that copper peptides not only stimulated healing of wounds but also increased the size of the hair follicles near the wounds. The copper peptides were not hair growth stimulators, per se, but did increase the hair follicle size and vitality.”

Further Dr. Pickart says, “Skin renewal and hair follicles are closely linked. New skin is now thought to arise from the hair follicles. All skin remodeling chemicals or genes that activate skin remodeling also increase hair follicle size. But although skin remodeling improves hair follicle health, it does not create new follicles or grow hair in hairless areas.”

In other words, active copper improves the health of dormant follicles to the point where they can grow hair again; but active copper will not grow hair on other areas of the skin.

The Skin Biology site contains some amazing photos regarding the use of active copper to heal severely damaged skin, as well as this photo demonstrating the hair regrowth potential of active copper.

The mouse was not harmed in the experiment. Its back was shaved and a copper peptide solution (Folligen) was applied to three spots of the shaved area. The three circular patches of thick hair on these areas clearly show the hair-growth promoting power of copper peptide.

Folligen Mouse OK it’s a mouse, not a human head, but it certainly lends credibility to my belief that the active copper is what woke up Sue's sleeping eyebrow follicles.

Sue, has had thinning hair for years. She is now starting her own personal trial of Folligen Cream and Lotion.

We figure it will take at least three months before we will have reportable results. Hair grows at an average rate of a half inch a month. At an inch and a half, any new hair strands would clearly be terminal rather than vellus, because vellus hair is very slow growing and would still be peach fuzz after three months.

So please check back for our review of Folligen. And in the meantime, get yourself some active copper skin cream.

Our results with Neutrogena Visibly Firm show you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to get effective amounts of active copper. However, if you would like to try one of the higher priced creams in the hope they would be that much more effective, here are a few we are quite interested in:

Neova Therapy Creme de la Copper

or the

NuGlow line.

Both contain patented GHK copper peptides, the principle active ingredient responsible for the success of these products.

If you try one of the others, please let us know what you think. We would love to put up more product reviews for our readers, but we don’t have enough faces around to do it all by ourselves.
