RoC - Kinerase - SkinCubed Comparison
Comparison of RoC Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Night Cream, KineraseExtreme Lift Face and SkinCubed Age-Defying Formula
Hi Jean,
I love your website and especially how you answer such specific questions for people.
I would appreciate it if you could give your opinion on a few anti-aging products I have been reading about. I know nothing about what ingredients are needed or really work. I would like your help to get past the marketing hype.
I am 80+ and have been blessed with good genes. I have sun damage from growing up in southern California but not a lot of wrinkles. So skin tone issues are my primary concern; then wrinkles.
Which would you recommend?
The products are Skincubed Age-Defying Formula, Kinerase Extreme Lift Face and RoC Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Night Cream.
Jean, thanks for your help and for all you do for us Age Warriors.
Sincerely,
Jackie
First let me say that I can review these products for you but can't directly compare them.
They are at different price points: the first two being quite pricey and the RoC product being very affordable.
Also they are designed to address different signs of aging.
BTW, RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream was recently awarded Allure Magazine's Best of Beauty seal in the Night Anti-Aging Treatment category.
If price is not an object, the one which would best treat both your skin tone issues and wrinkles is SkinCubed.
The best value, which would also address both of your skin concerns, is RoC Retinol Correxion.
My individual reviews follow.
RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream
RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream was recently awarded Allure Magazine's Best of Beauty seal in the Night Anti-Aging Treatment category. At about $20 an ounce, it is a bargain.
In my article Step Up Your Skin Care, I explain how you need to add new types of ingredients to your skin care routine as your skin ages.
You need good sun protection from day one to prevent UV damage. However, since RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle is a night cream, that is irrelevant to this review.
As your skin cells begin to lose youthful properties and the ability to protect themselves and regenerate, you need to add the following ingredients and you should look for the most effective ones in each class.
- Moisturizers
- Antioxidants
- Exfoliants
- Filling Peptides
- Lifting Peptides
RoC Retinol Correxion contains a few effective moisturizers (Glycerin and Shea Butter), Vitamin C and DMAE as antioxidants, Citric and Glycolic Acids and a small amount of Retinol as exfoliators and Active Copper Peptide as a filling peptide.
RoC does not contain any lifting peptides like Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 which your skin probably needs at its age.
Unfortunately, Active Copper is the last ingredient in RoC Retinol which means there might not be enough to have much effect. As well, though Retinol is one of the best OTC chemical exfoliants, there doesn't seem to be enough in RoC Retinol to be totally effective.
Finally, the moisturizers and antioxidants are not best in class.
In summery, while RoC Retinol covers most of the skin anti-aging bases, it seems to do so with smaller amounts than may be needed of some very effective ingredients (Active Copper and Glycolic Acid) and run of the mill moisturizers and antioxidants.
Kinerase Extreme Lift Face
What I find extreme about Kinerase Extreme Lift Face is its price - $150 an ounce. Don't get me wrong. I'm not opposed to paying that much for a product that is packed with active ingredients; but Kinerase Extreme appears to fall short.
Kinetin, the company's flagship ingredient, is the last on the ingredient list.
Extreme Lift does contain some other nice antioxidants. On the other hand, it has a high concentration of alcohol which is not only drying to the skin but also an oxidizing agent. To me that pretty much cancels out the antioxidants.
The nicest inclusion is SNAP-8, which is a more effective form of Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8) - the so-called Botox mimicking peptide.
If you like the Kinerase brand, I would recommend Kinerase C8 Peptide Intensive which has a higher concentration of Kinetin as well as the most powerful moisturizer, Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid); combined with very effective emollients (Sweet Almond Oil and Safflower Seed Oil) required to make a complete moisturizer.
It also has Argireline to forestall those nasty lines of expression.
SKIN-3 Professional Age-Defying Formula by KYSS
Say "skincubed" when you refer to this "Anti-Wrinkle Phenomenon" being advertised in high end women's magazines. The ad describes the product as a "peptide-based, anti-wrinkle cream." If you follow my blog or visit my website frequently, you know that I am a firm believer in peptides for skin anti-aging.
Needless to say, I was very interested. I tried to access the www.skincubed.com website listed in the ad but was not able to. So I phoned the company directly using the 1-800 number also provided.
A very helpful saleswoman answered. She expressed surprise when I told her the website isn't available. Hopefully they will get it up and running again soon. I personally prefer to order online from a secured website rather than to give my credit card information over the phone.
The company representative kindly e-mailed me a list of the product's ingredients and I am quite impressed. It contains a 3% concentration of Palmitoyl Oligopeptide (a filling peptide) and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 (a lifting peptide). [ This is in the clinically proven effective range of 3 to 8%.]
Skincubed contains: a great cocktail of antioxidants (Vitamins A, C, E, DMAE, Green Tea Extract and Alpha-Lipoic Acid); the most powerful moisturizer currently available (Hyaluronic Acid); some other nice moisturizers; and even a temporary skin tightener (Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein).
It covers all the relevant anti-aging skin care bases except exfoliation.
If any of my readers has actually tried SKIN-3 Professional Age-Defying Formula, I would love to print your review. As for me, I'll wait until I can order it online.
