Laser Collagen ReplenishmentThe First FDA Approved Collagen Re-Growth TreatmentLaser Collagen ReplenishmentThe FDA has approved the Nlite Laser Collagen Replenishment system which is designed to stimulate collagen re-growth.It is the first such device that has been shown to be effective to reverse the signs of aging by increasing the collagen in the skin, especially in facial areas. The Nlite is a non-invasive, pain free treatment that does not require anesthesia. There is no burning or damage done to the surface of the skin. Rather the laser pinpoints the tissue under the skin, causing sufficient irritation to encourage new collagen growth, which, in turn, fills in lines and wrinkles. Some doctors might prescribe a regimen of exfoliating products, such as Retin-A, Retinol or similar products containing Vitamin A or glycolic acids before the laser treatments begin.
The treatment itself lasts from 10 minutes to a half an hour, depending on how much skin surface needs to be treated. There is no pain or discomfort and the patient can immediately apply skin care products and/or makeup and continue on with her normal activities. Although you should never stop using sun block, this treatment does not make the skin more sensitive to sun exposure. This has been an aftereffect of some older cosmetic procedures. You might need two or three treatments spread out over several weeks. It then takes up to three months for collagen re-growth to have reached a stage where the results of the treatment are visible. While the results should be long lasting, they are unlikely to be permanent - and of course new lines and wrinkles will eventually develop. However, the extra collagen created by this procedure should delay that for quite a while. The device is also approved for treatment of acne scars and it might eventually receive approval for stretch mark treatment. It can also be used to treat port wine stains, spider veins, rosacea and other skin conditions. The overall effect of the treatment is to grow new collagen, resulting in thicker, more supple skin with noticeably diminished fine lines and wrinkles.
