Antioxidants & Other Essential Supplements

How to Consume Enough Antioxidants to Help Retard Aging

There seems to be little argument that nutrition plays a large part in maintaining maximal health and fitness.

Also it has been established that many of the newer supplements on the market such as chondroitin actually help to rebuild aging cartilage and keep our joints flexible.

Also the need to take antioxidants, either in our diet or by supplementation is generally accepted. Antioxidants combat the damage to skin and tissue caused by “free radicals”, overactive molecules that affect your cells’ ability to function properly due to the damage they inflict.

Free radicals are all around us, caused not only by normal molecular functions, but also by drugs, air pollution, chemicals, pesticides and other contaminants of the world we live in.

Studies have shown that antioxidants play a large role in combating and in some cases reversing this damage. They can help prevent further damage to your skin and organs and even contribute to collagen production which keeps the skin smooth and supple.

But the benefits are more than cosmetic. Antioxidants play a role in disease control. Studies have shown that these supplements prevent the oxidation of LDL cholesterol, which in turn helps keep the coronary arteries free of life threatening plaque.

Other, less conclusive studies, suggest that antioxidants may slow or prevent the spread of cancer, especially prostate cancer.

The list of antioxidants includes Vitamins E, C, A (in the form of beta carotene), coffeeberry, luetin, lycopene, magnesium, zinc and selenium. Blueberries, strawberries and raspberries are high in antioxidants, as are vegetables such as spinach, peppers, carrots and tomatoes.

Some nutritional experts doubt that you can get enough of these supplements through diet alone, due to soil depletion and the overprocessing of food. Vitamin supplements are recommended so that the proper dosages are ingested.

In the article referred to above, the author, a physician, lists even more supplements that he feels are vital to health. So the question becomes: how can I possibly stay on top of all of this and make sure I am taking everything I need?

Probably the best way is to take a quality multivitamin that contains the major antioxidants, vitamins and essential minerals that you need. TwinLab Radical Fighters is an antioxidant powerhouse that contains most of what you need in one pill.

Vitamin supplements are an integral part of any antiaging program. They treat your system from the inside out, helping to keep joints flexible, skin supple and disease under control.
