I have tried to break this all down into several articles that try to answer the questions raised.

This is Part One dealing with antiaging skin care products.

I have spent quite some time reading over your site, and I found it very informative. Thank you for taking the time to provide us with a site like this.

It is a welcome relief to find you after filtering through all the other sites that seem to be in place to sell their products.

Some of the products that you mention on your site that caught my attention were:

Thank you so much. It’s gratifying to know that we are hitting the mark. We really strive to provide balanced information on anti-aging – what works and what doesn’t, what’s “urban legend” and what is based on scientific fact.

As well, we try to stay on top of the latest breakthroughs and review the research behind them.

We began recommending topical peptide products about two years before Paula Begoun, the so-called Cosmetics Cop and author of the very popular and informative Don’t go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me, was finally convinced of their effectiveness against skin aging.

That makes me think it is time to update my top ten lists to include some of the new pro-sirtuin cosmeceutical creams.

The science on ingredients that extend skin cell life span is really mounting; and while there aren’t many products available yet, some of them are surprisingly affordable.

AntiAging Question: Skin Type and Condition

I am 33 years old, but I am told I look a lot younger. Some people comment that I am "a baby" when they meet me and tell me that I appear to be in my 20's.

However, 2007 was a very challenging year. I admit that I did struggle with depression and I let myself go for much of the year.

Because of this (combined with a lot of crying), I feel as if the aging process began to take its toll on my face. Primarily in the under-eye area where I now have fine lines that I want to get rid of!

I have problem skin - especially when I am under stress. My skin has been oily since junior high. However, I also occasionally get dry, flaky patches along with my oil.

I have enlarged pores. I also have very dark circles under my eyes that never go away. The products that I am currently using are the best combination that I have found to minimize the oily and patchy problems.

I have also noticed fine lines in my cleavage and am looking for advice on how to combat them. I should also mention that I live in a humid climate in South Florida.

You live in a humid climate and, at only 33, are noticing crepe-y skin in your cleavage. On the other hand, you have battled breakouts since junior high.

Not being a doctor and not having examined your skin, my guess is that you have basically dry skin but that it is difficult to treat (on your face) because of your breakouts.

However you might be able to use a richer moisturizer on your cleavage, neck and other areas where you notice that creepy crepe-iness.

Depression definitely ages you – and in more ways than one. It is a physical stress on your body. Your immune system may be weakened and free radicals meet with less resistance.

At the same time, you can’t find the energy to take proper care of yourself and you let your skin care (and overall care) routine go by the wayside.

I’m glad that you are over the worst and are fighting your way back. Taking pride in your appearance is a good sign. I hope you are eating a lot of high-antioxidant foods and/or taking antioxidant supplements.

Also consider that perhaps you’re being too hard on yourself. If people’s comments about how young you look are unsolicited, try to take them at face value (pun intended).

We are often our own worst critics.

I never thought I was pretty. In my sixties, I look back at pictures of me in my 30s, 40s and even 50s and think I looked pretty darn good. Too bad I couldn’t appreciate my looks then.

These days I make an effort to like what I see in the mirror.
