AntiAging Skin Care Ingredients that Work to Prevent Visible Signs of Aging

I came across your website and I am very impressed because it is the first one that I have come across addressing PREVENTIVE anti-aging skin care.

I am 39 years old and I look at least 10 years younger. I would like to keep it that way!!!

I am of African descent, light brown / yellowish complexion.

I use a daily moisturizer with collagen. As well, I have been using a simple Oil of Olay product around the eyes.

I know this isn't the best but I have no idea how to go about choosing a proper anti-aging product for myself.

I would really appreciate receiving your recommendations.

Coincidentally, I just wrote a blog (March 30) that addresses a good portion of your question. Basically, there are four main visible signs of skin aging: wrinkles, sagging, redness and discoloration.

You mention using a daily moisturizer with collagen.

Collagen by itself is too large a molecule to penetrate beneath the surface of the skin - which is where you want it to go (or grow). Up to about age 30, 75% of the skin's dermal layer is collagen. Collagen gives the skin its resilience and elasticity.

It can be injected to replace lost collagen temporarily; but smearing it on your skin isn't effective anti-aging.

However, there are cosmetic ingredients which preserve existing collagen and promote production of new collagen. They are called polypeptides. Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 stops and even reverses glycation damage which stiffens and thins collagen over time. Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 (PP-4) and Active Copper Peptide both stimulate new collagen production.

I don't know which Olay product you are using, but Olay Regenerist is an excellent antiaging skin care line. Three of the Regenerist products (day cream, night cream and day and night serum) were the top-performing antiaging skin care products in the recent Consumer Report mini-test of antiaging skin care creams. They contain PP-4.

With your light brown skin, you don't need to worry too much about redness, but you need extra care to prevent discolorations. You'll find a review of Olay's new Targeted Tone Enhancer here.
