An Effective AntiAging RoutineYou Don't Have to Buy Every Skin Care Product Made to Have an Effective AntiAging Routineshopping networks to feed my compulsive need to find the fountain of youth. I have practically every anti-wrinkle product, treatment product and any other product that promises to make me look younger. Now I have a lot of products; some of which I like and some I can see no visible changes. I would like to ask you if you could help me put together some kind of daily routine using what I have. These products include Wei East – all cleansers, all toners, moisturizers (like Ultimate Renewal for night and Wei East Chestnut line for day, including the Chestnut Extra Firming Cream which I really like). I also would like to be able to use Youth Recaptured by Wei East, along with her Chestnut Firming Essence, Chestnut day cream.
I like Origin's Checks & Balances for my PM cleanser. I know for example I need a good cleanser to get the make up off. Origins Checks & Balances does it quite well. I have Dr. Denese’ microdermabrasion peel kit, facial pads, all serums for face and neck and décolletage along with all her Wrinkle Smoothers for eyes, face, neck and lips. I also have her make up line and her SPF 30 day cream. And then I have the products I already had before I tried to put together a beauty treatment routine. I used Victoria Principal’s line for three years but changed to Wei East on a whim. I think I really Wei East better. I own every product she makes. I have all of Elysee skin care line and used it for about a month in conjunction with my Wei East. Then I received a facial from the Origin store and ended up with the entire line plus some Dr. Weil products. I bought the entire line of Philosophy about two years ago and really liked it also. I even invested in a couple of LiftFusion products and received my back order of Dr. Wexler’s MMPI Serum (which I do not know how, when or where to fit it into the mix). There are other products but these are my current favorites. Oh yes – almost forgot, I have a lot of Smashbox also. I forgot to mention I have the Italian Bath & Body skin care line which includes the Black Rise eye cream, lip balm, microdermabrasion kit (3 of them), the night cream duo, all the make up and even eye products along with brow products. I also have the Black day and night duo cream. As you can see, I am very fickle regarding my skin care lines. However I cannot read the difficult scientific words; nor do I understand if it would cancel certain benefits out if I were to mix my brands. My question is: Can you put together some kind of a skin care regimen for me to use utilizing what I already have? I am 58 with normal and fairly good skin. A few deep creases starting to set in my forehead and around my mouth. Some line around lips. I just can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. I need help. I'd like to put together a routine that works for me. I would be forever grateful if you would assist me with a regimen. So thanks in advance for any help you can give me,
Darleen Seeking the Fountain of Youth?I think I can safely say this because you said it yourself. You have a compulsion. So that’s where we need to start this discussion. You say it’s a compulsion to find the fountain of youth, but not all of the products you’ve purchased are antiaging products per se. Is it a shopping compulsion … or a desire to be beautiful … or a desire to please others … or just to pamper yourself and thereby feel loved? I’m not qualified to help you answer those questions. You need to do that yourself and for yourself. I really urge you to set a firm antiaging cosmetic budget and strive to watch less QVC and HSN. Do not buy the two additional Wei East products you are craving. If you aren’t able to take these first three steps, please seek professional help. You may find Compulsive Shopping by Ellen Mohr Catalano and Nina Sonenberg helpful. Reviewer Randy Given had this to say, “Buy this book if you are a compulsive shopper. Yes, that seems to be a contradiction. However, it has two purposes – it not only gets you a good book on the subject, it gets you started on the road of seeing where your values are and only buying things that will really benefit you.” Shopping compulsions can ruin marriages, budgets and lives. I hope you can accept this advice as it is offered: most sincerely with a desire to help.
Making the Most of What You Have: YouIt sounds like your skin is in very good condition for your age. You’ve taken good care of it and may also be blessed with good genes. Good for you!If your goal is to be the best you can be at any age, have you examined your overall antiaging program? I agree with Dr. Andrew Weil (whose skin care products you own) on one point, “without good health, there is no real beauty.” An integrated approach to antiaging is essential. Having a well-rounded approach to the fight against aging can take some of the focus (as well as time and money spent) away from cosmetics. Do you have a healthy diet and exercise program? Do you take supplements like antioxidants to help your body (and skin) fight off the ravages of time?
Making the Most of What You Have: Your AntiAging Cosmetic SuppliesFirst of all, you mention many products that you bought years ago. If these have been opened and especially if they are stored where light can reach them, many have lost their effectiveness and may even be contaminated.Pull out all the stuff you are not currently using. If the package has been opened, check the contents. If there is anything “off” in color, texture or smell, toss it. Toss any SPF day creams that are past their “use by” date, usually those more than two years old. Or, if you are particularly fond of the creams, put them in a drawer or box near where you watch TV or read. Use them on dry hands, feet whatever, while you’re sitting there and don’t plan to go out in the sun. (Isn’t that nice? You still get to pamper yourself!)
Your New AntiAging Skin Care RegimenIt is just impossible for me to research the effective antiaging ingredients for all of the products you own. Some makers do not even post their full ingredient lists on the Internet. So here’s what I have done to help you sort through your remaining stash. You already have the ingredient lists because they are required by law to appear on the package. You need help to sort out the best from the rest, based on their effective antiaging ingredients. The links I’m providing below, direct you to lists of the best ingredients in the categories where ingredients really count. For A.M. you’ll need cleanser, toner, antioxidants, anti-frown (Argireline or Acetyl Hexapeptide-3), anti-wrinkle creams, moisturizing ingredients, eye cream (which should have similar anti-aging ingredients but be more hypoallergenic. If your eyes are not sensitive, you can skip eye cream and just use your moisturizer around the eye area.) and sun protection. Look for the same active ingredients: peptides to grow new collagen; antioxidants to fight free radical damage; sun protection (for day); and moisturizers to support the skin’s glycan network and keep the skin plump and moist. For night, you want the biggest dose of antaging repair ingredients you can find: peptides and moisturizers, as well as exfoliating ingredients to help the skin slough off dead cells. Night time is the body’s prime time to repair itself. Finally since you already own deep exfoliation products (microdermabrasion and peel products), use them, but not more than once a week. Once your skin has that certain glow (of young fresh cells on the surface), use the deep exfoliators even less frequently just for maintenance. As for mixing different lines, it is nice when you can find a line that contains all the ingredients you want because they are formulated to work and blend together. However, as long as you let each product absorb completely before applying the next, you will not cancel out any antiaging benefits by using several brands.
Just a few Random Thoughts from JeanSome of Victoria’s Principal Secret products contain Argireline. That’s a plus.Dr. Patricia Wexler’s MMPi product advertising raises my eyebrows. I don’t like it when companies claim to have proprietary secret ingredients. In my opinion, seeking a patent for these compounds is just a way to circumvent the requirement to reveal all the base ingredients. LiftFusion is perhaps the most powerful antiaging potion you have in your stash. It contains, not one or two but, three anti-aging peptides. Just curious, would it be as exciting to purchase Wei East on eBay where you can find it for a tenth of the retail cost? Also, I read on a forum that one of the first ingredients in Wei East products is petroleum jelly (also known as petrolatum or soft paraffin). Is that true? According to Wikipedia, “petrolatum is less expensive than glycerol, the most common active lubricating ingredient in skin lotion” and “it is not used in expensive lotions because it is not absorbed into the skin resulting in a greasy feel.” Do I think you’re vane or self-absorbed or silly? – No Wei! I think you’ve been seduced by slick marketing and product endorsements.
