AntiAging Formula - Part Three
Finding the Best AntiAging Formula for You
This article consists of a very long e-mail I received from Nicole and my equally long answers.
I have tried to break this all down into several articles that try to answer the questions raised.
This is Part Three dealing with facial exercise and the skin care products I use.
Part One deals with antiaging skin care products.
Part Two deals with skin care regimens and SPF safety.
I have presented everything in a question and answer format.
AntiAging Question: Facial Exercises
Also, I found some articles on facial exercises and was wondering if you would comment on your opinion as to their effectiveness in both preventing and reversing signs of aging.
AntiAging Answer
Here are the pros and cons on facial exercises.
Today millions of women get Botox injections to reduce facial movements that cause lines of expression. We know this is effective.
Logically then, the exaggerated facial movements of facial exercise would deepen lines of expression and have an aging effect on the skin.
As for the effect on facial muscles, it is true that these muscles sag with age. In fact, when a surgeon performs a full face lift, s/he cuts key facial muscles, stretches them tight and reattaches them. Theoretically, exercise should be able to keep facial muscles toned and lifted.
Toning any muscle requires using it repeatedly with light resistance. That's what we do all day as we chew, talk, yawn, etc. However, those activities exercise only some facial muscles.
So a good facial exercise program would be designed to target the ones we don't normally use, resulting in a more balanced facial tone.
Some proponents of facial exercise say you can actually build muscle to fill out the face and counteract the effect of thinning skin. Building muscle requires high resistance to push the muscle beyond its limits.
How can one do that with facial muscles? Hang by your teeth from a rope? Put a 10-pound weight on your lips and do lip-ups?
Weighing the pros and cons, I'll pass on facial exercises.
AntiAging Question: My Skin Care Regimen
Lastly, I am curious to know what YOUR skin care regimen is! :)
Take care and thank you again,
Nicole
AntiAging Answer
I shared my current Morning Skin Care Routine in this article.
At night, I cleanse with a cream cleanser because of my dry skin. I'm not particular which one or what anti-aging ingredients it contains because I figure I'm going to rinse it off anyway.
Then I apply Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle.
If my skin feels particularly dry, I apply Kinerase Pro+Therapy Ultra Rich Night Repair just before going to sleep.
Remember though, that we have different skin types and I'm a few years older than you - 62 ;-).
I've always had dry skin and never had breakouts even as a teen. It was nice then - but not so nice now!
