There are just some skin problems that cannot be fixed with an antiaging lotion or cream.

Instead, you have to move up to antiaging cosmetic procedures or surgery.

Deep wrinkles, scars, skin discolorations, “turkey” neck, drooping eyelids and more are treated with more invasive and extensive antiaging cosmetic procedures, running from chemical peels to full blown face lifts.

Most of the antiaging creams sold over the counter are in effect weak chemical peels. They seek to iron out wrinkles and beautify the skin by damaging it. This damage causes old skin to slough off and forces new collagen and elastin to grow, filling in fine lines and wrinkles.

Many antiaging cosmetic procedures do the same thing, but to a wider and/or deeper area of the skin. More damage is done, but more new growth is stimulated. Some of these treatments can be long lasting; others have to be repeated over and over again.

Some are more effective than others at removing deep wrinkles or scars or removing unwanted hair.

Some cosmetic procedures can cause significant visible redness and scarring that can last for months, while others allow you to proceed with life as if nothing happened.

Some antiaging cosmetic procedures can be performed by a cosmetician or an “aesthetician” in a beauty salon or doctor’s office. These are generally chemical peels.

Other procedures such as dermabrasion, Botox, collagen or silicon injections or laser procedures are done by dermatologists or plastic surgeons either in their offices or in hospitals.
